Oven-baked spiced meatballs
Hand-rolled meatballs seasoned with curry powder, cumin and garam masala, browned in a pan and finished in the oven. A good recipe to cook with children, as long as everyone washes their hands after touching the raw meat.

Method · 6 steps
- 1
Heat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan).
- 2
Tip the mince into a large mixing bowl. Add the onion, garlic and coriander, along with the spices (curry powder, cumin, garam masala and the paprika or cayenne), and mix thoroughly. The spices give plenty of flavour, so there is no need for salt.
- 3
Pour in the beaten egg, add the breadcrumbs and mix again.
- 4
Divide the mixture into 15-18 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball roughly as big as a walnut. Wash your hands well after touching raw meat, so germs from it can't reach other food or kitchen tools.
- 5
Warm the oil in a frying pan on a medium heat. Add the meatballs to the pan one at a time with a spoon and brown them for 5 mins, turning them often, until golden. Transfer them to the baking tray and bake for 15-20 mins.
- 6
Wearing oven gloves, take the tray out of the oven and leave the meatballs to cool a little. Serve with pitta bread, tomato salsa and a crisp green salad.
